Lonjsko Polje Nature Park is the largest protected area in the entire Danube basin. The Park is the biggest complex of natural and preserved floodplain forests in Europe. It consists of three fields: Lonjsko, Mokro and Poganovo, covering an area of 50 650 hectares. Floodplain forests are covering almost 70 % of the Nature Park. River Sava floods give life to the forests. In past Central Europe used a medieval system of joint grazing. Today, this traditional system is only preserved in Lonjsko Polje. So if you visit it, you can enjoy in 12 000 hectares of joint pastures where livestock roams free.
